Our breeds are very different. Leicester Longwools originated in England and found their way to us via George Washington and others of his time. Washington was looking for a more duel purpose sheep breed to help what he already had. He was extremely interested in Robert Bakewell's selective breeding program, and despite the laws of the time, smuggled breeding animals into the colonies.
Longwools existed many years before becoming almost extinct in the US. Breeders have since brought the breed back. They are still listed as critical on the Livestock Conservancy list.

Longwools have long curly locks that can be white or grey to black. Ours are fine and wonderfully easy to spin. We have raw wool available all year long. So just email if interested. It starts at $10 per pound. We also have breeding stock available.
