The newest breed to our ranch is the Hog Island. What a great story this breed has! Most likely English in origin, they were thought to have been pulled off a barrier island in Virgina when the inhabitants left for dryer ground. Only to have had a few left that survived and thrived. This breed takes easy keeper to a whole new level! Worm resistant and super feed efficient, they have found a home at George Washington's Mount Vernon. Ainsley was awarded a ewe in 2022 by Mount Vernon through the Livestock Conservancy's Youth Conservation Program. They are a fine wool breed, but the wool is extremely dense. Want more info?
