Romeldales were created in the early 1900's in California. They were a dual purpose very fine wool breed. WHITE! In the 1950's a breeder in California noticed a color pattern emerging. He line bred the colored animals and found that he could get color from creams to browns to greys and blacks as well as patterns like badger faced you see above and many other beautiful markings. This breed was already sought after for their fine, soft wool. But now spinners are delighted with the colors as well! CVMs (California Variegated Mutants) are also listed as critical on the Livestock Conservancy's list. More info can be found on the LC webpage, as well as the CVM breeders association pages.
